Such a short cut is rarely warranted even though the diagnosis later may prove to be correct. Clinical diagnoses should be made on clinical grounds, based on symptoms and findings. Maybe a diagnosis is supported or suggested by genetic findings, but the genetic finding rarely equals the diagnosis in an index patient.
