Using an iodide-modified ruthenium-BINAP-catalyst and O-benzhydryl alkoxyallene 1a, carbonyl (α-alkoxy)allylation occurs from the alcohol or aldehyde oxidation level to form enantiomerically enriched syn-sec,tert-diols.
