EPR spectroscopy reveals that sulfinyl radicals are persistent and unreactive toward O(2), allowing the O-H bonding dissociation enthalpy (BDE) of the sulfenic acid to be readily determined by equilibration with TEMPO as 71.9 kcal/mol.
