As fetal heart development is complex and poorly understood, we use single-cell RNA sequencing to profile the gene expression landscapes of human fetal hearts from the four-time points: 8, 10, 11, 17 gestational weeks (GW8, GW10, GW11, GW17), and identified 11 major types of cells: erythroid cells, fibroblasts, heart endothelial cells, ventricular cardiomyocytes, atrial cardiomyocytes, macrophage, DCs, smooth muscle, pericytes, neural cells, schwann cells. In addition, we identified a series of differentially expressed genes and signaling pathways in each cell type between different gestational weeks. Notably, we found that ANNEXIN, MIF, PTN, GRN signalling pathways were simple and fewer intercellular connections in GW8, however, they were significantly more complex and had more intercellular communication in GW10, GW11, and GW17. Notably, the interaction strength of OSM signalling pathways was gradually decreased during this period of time (from GW8 to GW17). Together, in this study, we presented a comprehensive and clear description of the differentiation processes of all the main cell types in the human fetal hearts, which may provide information and reference data for heart regeneration and heart disease treatment.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.3978952727983707,"endowment":2.3978952727983707,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"38876166","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4399630727","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"China Postdoctoral Science Foundation","grant_id":"202210601009","title":null},{"funder_name":"China Postdoctoral Science Foundation","grant_id":"2023M740344","title":null},{"funder_name":"Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province","grant_id":"2024A1515011222","title":null},{"funder_name":"Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality","grant_id":"JCYJ20210324135014040","title":null},{"funder_name":"Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality","grant_id":"JCYJ20220818103407016","title":null},{"funder_name":"Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality","grant_id":"JCYJ20230807150913027","title":null}],"total_grants":6,"fwci":1.6238,"citation_percentile":0.83108177,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":3},{"year":2026,"count":5}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"http://www.elsevier.com/open-access/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0012160624001544?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0012160624001544?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ydbio.2024.06.004","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38876166","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Congenital heart defects research","Wind Turbine Control Systems","RNA modifications and cancer"],"mesh_terms":["Cell Communication","Cell Differentiation","Fetal Heart","Gestational Age","Humans","Signal Transduction","Sequence Analysis, RNA","Gene Expression Regulation, Developmental","Gene Expression Profiling","Myocytes, Cardiac","Single-Cell Analysis","Transcriptome"],"keywords":["Biology","Cell biology","Cell type","Heart development","Gene expression","Fetus","Cell","Embryonic stem cell","Gene","Immunology","Genetics","Pregnancy","Signaling pathway","Differentially expressed gene","Fetal heart","Cellular Communication","Single-cell Rna Sequencing"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-10T11:05:25.389889Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
