The number of reported TBE cases continues to increase in many endemic regions, and new foci have been identified. Increases in travel, access to high-risk areas, and the pursuit of leisure activities within TBE-endemic areas are placing more people at risk of TBE. Travellers from non-endemic regions are often unaware of the risk of acquiring TBE and therefore many travellers are not protected against TBE. Active immunization is the most effective way to avoid TBE and its potentially life-threatening sequelae. After a tick bite, no post-exposure treatment including active/passive vaccination is available or recommended in the immunologically naive patient. Available vaccines have undergone a series of modifications and improvement in both composition (with special formulations for children) and schedules to further enhance the safety of immunization and to meet the needs of vaccinees. Efforts to develop internationally recognized recommendations for TBE vaccination for travellers are underway.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.2188758248682006,"endowment":3.2188758248682006,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"18984477","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2002005702","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.2121,"citation_percentile":0.74494382,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1},{"year":2013,"count":3},{"year":2014,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":5},{"year":2018,"count":4},{"year":2019,"count":2},{"year":2024,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/legal/tdmrep-license","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1477893908001002?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1477893908001002?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tmaid.2008.06.011","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18984477","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Vector-borne infectious diseases","Mosquito-borne diseases and control","Viral Infections and Vectors"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Bites and Stings","Encephalitis, Tick-Borne","Europe","Humans","Ticks","Travel","Vaccination","Viral Vaccines","Incidence","Endemic Diseases"],"keywords":["Tick-borne encephalitis","Vaccination","Immunization","Encephalitis","Tick","Disease","Environmental health","Medicine","Geography","Virology","Immunology","Virus"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-05T21:46:06.633504Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
