DNA stable-isotope probing (DNA-SIP) is a recently developed method in which the incorporation of stable isotope from a labelled substrate is used to identify the function of microorganisms in the environment. The technique has now been used in conjunction with metagenomics to establish links between microbial identity and particular metabolic functions. The combination of DNA-SIP and metagenomics not only permits the detection of rare low-abundance species from metagenomic libraries but also facilitates the detection of novel enzymes and bioactive compounds.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":5.25227342804663,"endowment":5.25227342804663,"datacite_reuse_total":2,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"20202846","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2163568680","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Natural Environment Research Council","grant_id":"NE/H016236/1","title":null},{"funder_name":"Natural Environment Research Council","grant_id":"NE/E016855/1","title":null}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":14.3889,"citation_percentile":0.99324956,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":12},{"year":2013,"count":14},{"year":2014,"count":19},{"year":2015,"count":9},{"year":2016,"count":12},{"year":2017,"count":8},{"year":2018,"count":7},{"year":2019,"count":13},{"year":2020,"count":15},{"year":2021,"count":17},{"year":2022,"count":9},{"year":2023,"count":10},{"year":2024,"count":9},{"year":2025,"count":8},{"year":2026,"count":5}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/tdm/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0966842X10000193?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0966842X10000193?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tim.2010.02.002","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20202846","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://ueaeprints.uea.ac.uk/id/eprint/36375/","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Microbial Community Ecology and Physiology","Genomics and Phylogenetic Studies","Environmental DNA in Biodiversity Studies","Bacteria","Environmental Microbiology","Isotope Labeling","Metagenomics"],"mesh_terms":["Bacteria","Environmental Microbiology","Isotope Labeling","Metagenomics"],"keywords":["Metagenomics","Stable-isotope probing","Biology","Computational biology","Microorganism","Function (biology)","DNA","Environmental DNA","Gene","Genetics","Bacteria","Ecology","Biodiversity"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Life in Land"}],"linked_datasets":[{"doi":"10.6084/m9.figshare.14385420.v1","title":"Additional file 2 of Important ecophysiological roles of non-dominant Actinobacteria in plant residue decomposition, especially in less fertile soils","publisher":"figshare","resource_type":"JournalArticle"},{"doi":"10.6084/m9.figshare.14385420","title":"Additional file 2 of Important ecophysiological roles of non-dominant Actinobacteria in plant residue decomposition, especially in less fertile soils","publisher":"figshare","resource_type":"JournalArticle"}],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-18T20:17:25.622241Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
