Trying to understand the psycholinguistic processing of language in its natural niche raises new issues, first and foremost the binding of multiple, temporally offset signals under tight time constraints posed by a turn-taking system. This might be expected to overload and slow our cognitive system, but the reverse is in fact the case. We propose cognitive mechanisms that may explain this phenomenon and call for a multimodal, situated psycholinguistic framework to unravel the full complexities of human language processing.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":6.061456918928017,"endowment":6.061456918928017,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"31235320","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2951431783","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"European Commission","grant_id":"269484","title":"The Interaction Engine: Interactive foundations for communication"},{"funder_name":"European Commission","grant_id":"773079","title":"Communication in Action: \nTowards a model of Contextualized Action and Language Processing"},{"funder_name":"European Research Council","grant_id":"","title":null},{"funder_name":"Max-Planck-Gesellschaft","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":4,"fwci":30.6026,"citation_percentile":0.99850704,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2019,"count":5},{"year":2020,"count":60},{"year":2021,"count":44},{"year":2022,"count":57},{"year":2023,"count":79},{"year":2024,"count":64},{"year":2025,"count":70},{"year":2026,"count":49}],"oa_status":"bronze","license":"Elsevier TDM","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://www.cell.com/article/S1364661319301299/pdf","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"http://www.cell.com/article/S1364661319301299/pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1364661319301299?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1364661319301299?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.tics.2019.05.006","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31235320","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/21.11116/0000-0003-D70A-0","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://hdl.handle.net/2066/205921","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/2066/205921","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://pure.mpg.de/pubman/item/item_3071921_4/component/file_3150894/Holler_Levinson_2019.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://hdl.handle.net/https://repository.ubn.ru.nl/handle/2066/205921","host_type":""},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.tics.2019.05.006","host_type":""},{"url":"https://repository.ubn.ru.nl//bitstream/handle/2066/205921/205921.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://hdl.handle.net/21.11116/0000-0004-69E9-0","host_type":""},{"url":"https://hdl.handle.net/21.11116/0000-0003-D70A-0","host_type":""},{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.tics.2019.05.006","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Language, Metaphor, and Cognition","Categorization, perception, and language","Hearing Impairment and Communication","03 medical and health sciences","0302 clinical medicine","05 social sciences","0501 psychology and cognitive sciences"],"mesh_terms":["Communication","Humans","Models, Theoretical","Perception","Comprehension"],"keywords":["Human language","Cognitive science","Situated","Cognition","Psycholinguistics","Psychology","Niche construction","Face (sociological concept)","Human communication","Cognitive psychology","Computer science","Communication","Linguistics","Artificial intelligence","Neuroscience","Ecology","Biology","Binding","Segregation","Multimodal Language","Cross-level Prediction","Multimodal Gestalts","Humans","Perception","Models, Theoretical","Comprehension","Language & Communication"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Quality Education"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-06T11:53:07.860311Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
