Exercise adherence was 70% (SD = 12.7) but fidelity was 50% (SD = 13.9). Three participants suffered adverse events (undertaking activities contrary to advice). Participants reported the education package, perceived benefit, and feedback frequency as intervention enablers; while the onerous time commitment was regarded a barrier. At 12 weeks, five participants were satisfied and eight very satisfied, while VISA-A had improved 24 ± 20.65 points (μ2 = 0.740).
Conclusions
A randomised control trial including recommended education and exercise with a pain-guided hopping intervention as treatment for recreational runners with midportion Achilles tendinopathy may be warranted, once strategies to improve adherence and reduce adverse events are addressed.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"31518777","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":null,"authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)","grant_id":"CAT SCL-2013-04-003","title":null},{"funder_name":"Rosetrees","grant_id":"M629","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)","grant_id":"12/201/02","title":null},{"funder_name":"Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council","grant_id":"EP/P009964/1","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/legal/tdmrep-license","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1466853X19303116?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1466853X19303116?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"}],"fields_of_study":[],"mesh_terms":["Achilles Tendon","Humans","Pain","Treatment Outcome","Exercise Therapy","Cohort Studies","Feasibility Studies","Running","Adult","Middle Aged","Australia","Male","Tendinopathy","Patient Education as Topic","Pain Management"],"keywords":["Achilles Tendinopathy","Hopping","Pain-guided Treatment"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-10T16:50:29.450403Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
