Bupropion-related psychosis has been recognized in several papers, but these reports of bupropion-related psychosis almost all involve immediate release (IR) formulation. We present a case of acute psychosis following sustained release bupropion (SR) overdose. A 23-year-old male was admitted because of major depression and a suicidal attempt by ingesting 28 tablets of 150 mg bupropion SR and 14 tablets of 7.5 mg midazolam. He developed paranoid delusions 12 h after the bupropion SR overdose. The paranoid symptoms remitted on the third day of his admission. Our case of acute psychosis following bupropion SR overdose indicates the importance of being aware of the rare complication in patients receiving bupropion SR treatment.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.091042453358316,"endowment":3.091042453358316,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"15610958","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2046157549","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.7688,"citation_percentile":0.85111695,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1},{"year":2013,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":1},{"year":2017,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2022,"count":1},{"year":2025,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/tdm/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0278584604001952?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0278584604001952?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pnpbp.2004.10.003","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15610958","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Poisoning and overdose treatments","Drug-Induced Hepatotoxicity and Protection","Forensic Toxicology and Drug Analysis","Adult","Antidepressive Agents, Second-Generation","Antidotes","Bupropion","Charcoal","Delayed-Action Preparations","Drug Overdose","Humans","Irritable Mood","Male","Psychomotor Agitation","Psychoses, Substance-Induced","Suicide, Attempted"],"mesh_terms":["Adult","Antidotes","Charcoal","Delayed-Action Preparations","Humans","Irritable Mood","Male","Psychomotor Agitation","Psychoses, Substance-Induced","Suicide, Attempted","Bupropion","Antidepressive Agents, Second-Generation","Drug Overdose"],"keywords":["Bupropion","Psychosis","Acute Psychosis","Medicine","Midazolam","Antidepressant","Anesthesia","Dopamine","Psychiatry","Pharmacology","Psychology","Internal medicine","Anxiety","Sedation"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T13:07:40.492495Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
