Previous behavioral studies indicated that intracerebroventricular administration of AP5 (NMDA glutamate receptor antagonist) and CNQX (AMPA/kainate glutamate receptor antagonist) during the extinction and before reinstatement of morphine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) reduced the extinction period and reinstatement of morphine-CPP. Therefore, in the present study, we tried to evaluate the effect of antagonism of NMDA glutamate receptors on the p-CREB/CREB ratio and c-fos expression in the NAc, PFC and HIP during these two phases of morphine-CPP in male adult albino Wistar rats. The p-CREB/CREB ratio and c-fos levels were estimated by Western blot analysis. The results revealed that these two factors decreased by antagonism of NMDA glutamate receptors (different doses of AP5) compared to saline-control group in aforementioned regions. The reduction of molecular markers, especially the p-CREB/CREB ratio, after AP5 administration was more during the extinction period. Therefore, it can be assumed that consolidation and reconsolidation of morphine memory via intra-PFC, -NAc and -HIP NMDA glutamate receptors are in accordance with changes in p-CREB/CREB ratio and c-fos levels.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.8903717578961645,"endowment":2.8903717578961645,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"29054430","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2765189774","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Neuroscience Research Center, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":1,"fwci":0.9369,"citation_percentile":0.70245271,"influential_citations":2,"citation_trend":[{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":4},{"year":2020,"count":3},{"year":2021,"count":2},{"year":2022,"count":2},{"year":2023,"count":3},{"year":2025,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/tdm/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0304394017308546?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0304394017308546?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neulet.2017.10.028","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29054430","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Neurotransmitter Receptor Influence on Behavior","Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology Research","Memory and Neural Mechanisms","Chemistry","Medicine","Animals","Brain","Conditioning, Classical","Cyclic AMP Response Element-Binding Protein","Drug-Seeking Behavior","Extinction, Psychological","Hippocampus","Male","Morphine","Nucleus Accumbens","Phosphorylation","Prefrontal Cortex","Proto-Oncogene Proteins c-fos","Rats, Wistar","Receptors, N-Methyl-D-Aspartate","Signal Transduction"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Brain","Conditioning, Classical","Extinction, Psychological","Hippocampus","Male","Morphine","Nucleus Accumbens","Phosphorylation","Signal Transduction","Receptors, N-Methyl-D-Aspartate","Proto-Oncogene Proteins c-fos","Rats, Wistar","Cyclic AMP Response Element-Binding Protein","Prefrontal Cortex","Drug-Seeking Behavior"],"keywords":["Conditioned place preference","CREB","Nucleus accumbens","NMDA receptor","AMPA receptor","Ventral tegmental area","Kainate receptor","Glutamate receptor","Pharmacology","Neuroscience","Chemistry","Morphine","Dopamine","Receptor","Medicine","Internal medicine","Biology","Biochemistry","Dopaminergic","Hippocampus","c-fos","prefrontal cortex","Reward","Nmda Glutamate Receptor","P-creb/creb Ratio"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Life below water"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-14T22:51:51.054487Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
