Among the 28 known fusion partners, there are two categories: homeobox genes and non-homeobox genes. The homeobox fusion partners are well-studied in animal models, resulting in HoxA cluster overexpression and hematological disease. The non-homeobox fusion partners are less well studied. We created transgenic animal models for three NUP98 fusion genes (one homeobox, two non-homeobox), and show that in this system, the NUP98-homeobox fusion promotes self-renewal and aberrant gene expression to a significantly greater extent. We conclude that homeobox partners create more potent NUP98 fusion oncogenes than do non-homeobox partners.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.70805020110221,"endowment":2.70805020110221,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"24090997","pmcid":"PMC3883578","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1968610917","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Intramural NIH HHS","grant_id":"ZIA SC010378","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Cancer Institute","grant_id":"","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Health and Medical Research Council","grant_id":"","title":null},{"funder_name":"Cancer Council Victoria","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":0.8254,"citation_percentile":0.70795808,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2014,"count":1},{"year":2015,"count":2},{"year":2016,"count":3},{"year":2017,"count":1},{"year":2018,"count":2},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"green","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/legal/tdmrep-license","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/11343/44014","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/11343/44014","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0145212613003305?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0145212613003305?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.leukres.2013.09.013","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24090997","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/3883578","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Ubiquitin and proteasome pathways","Genomics and Chromatin Dynamics","Chromosomal and Genetic Variations"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Cell Transformation, Neoplastic","Cells, Cultured","Cytoskeletal Proteins","DNA Topoisomerases, Type I","Mice, Inbred C57BL","Mice, Transgenic","Translocation, Genetic","Oncogene Proteins, Fusion","Homeodomain Proteins","Guanine Nucleotide Exchange Factors","Nuclear Pore Complex Proteins","Adaptor Proteins, Signal Transducing","Mice"],"keywords":["Homeobox","Homeobox A1","Homeobox protein Nkx-2.5","HNF1B","CDX2","Fusion gene","EMX2","Fusion protein","Biology","DLX5","Gene","Genetics","Fusion","Transcription factor","Leukemia","Translocation","Hox","Nup98"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Partnerships for the goals"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-27T18:11:46.811885Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
