Youth (N=42, 48% male) were screened, and those eligible completed a baseline survey. Baseline survey completers were randomly assigned to usual care or to an MI intervention and completed a 3-month follow-up survey. The sample (age 12 to 18 years) was 85.7% Hispanic or Latino, 9.5% African American, and 4.8% White. At the 3-month follow-up, Project CHAT teens reported less marijuana use, lower perceived prevalence of marijuana use, fewer friends who used marijuana, and lower intentions to use marijuana in the next 6 months, as compared to teens assigned to usual care. Providing this type of brief intervention is a viable approach to working with high-risk teens to decrease substance use.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":5.459585514144159,"endowment":5.459585514144159,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"18037603","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2077663164","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIDA NIH HHS","grant_id":"R21 DA018854","title":null}],"total_grants":1,"fwci":6.5898,"citation_percentile":0.96425382,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":22},{"year":2013,"count":20},{"year":2014,"count":20},{"year":2015,"count":20},{"year":2016,"count":19},{"year":2017,"count":12},{"year":2018,"count":22},{"year":2019,"count":15},{"year":2020,"count":19},{"year":2021,"count":2},{"year":2022,"count":9},{"year":2023,"count":8},{"year":2024,"count":4},{"year":2025,"count":3},{"year":2026,"count":3}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/legal/tdmrep-license","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0740547207002437?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0740547207002437?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jsat.2007.08.008","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18037603","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Child and Adolescent Psychosocial and Emotional Development","Substance Abuse Treatment and Outcomes","Prenatal Substance Exposure Effects","Adolescent","Child","Female","Humans","Interviews as Topic","Male","Motivation","Pilot Projects","Primary Health Care","Substance-Related Disorders"],"mesh_terms":["Adolescent","Child","Female","Humans","Interviews as Topic","Male","Motivation","Pilot Projects","Primary Health Care","Substance-Related Disorders"],"keywords":["Motivational interviewing","Brief intervention","Medicine","Intervention (counseling)","Family medicine","Randomized controlled trial","Substance use","Primary care","Suicide prevention","Poison control","Psychiatry","Environmental health"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-26T17:41:04.817123Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
