Many research works have been devoted to the encapsulation of nucleic acid compounds, insoluble small molecule drugs, small molecules, liposomes, polymers, and various nanoparticles in yeast for the treatment of disease. Recombinant yeast-based vaccine carriers (WYV) have played a major role in the development of vaccines. Herein, the latest reports on the application of yeast carriers and the development of related research are summarized, a conceptual description of gastrointestinal absorption of yeast carriers, as well as the various package forms of different drug molecules and nanoparticles in yeast carriers are introduced. In addition, the advantages and development of recombinant yeast vaccine carriers for the disease, veterinary and aquaculture applications are discussed. Moreover, the current challenges and future directions of yeast carriers are proposed.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.02535169073515,"endowment":4.02535169073515,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"35483637","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4225158304","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"kq2202131","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"81301258","title":null},{"funder_name":"Huxiang Youth Talent Support Program","grant_id":"2018RS3005","title":null},{"funder_name":"Central South University","grant_id":"2020CX048","title":null},{"funder_name":"Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province","grant_id":"2019JJ60071","title":null},{"funder_name":"Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province","grant_id":"2020JJ4680","title":null},{"funder_name":"Open-End Fund for the Valuable and Precision Instruments of Central South University","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":7,"fwci":7.3516,"citation_percentile":0.97901011,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2022,"count":4},{"year":2023,"count":11},{"year":2024,"count":20},{"year":2025,"count":13},{"year":2026,"count":7}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://doi.org/10.15223/policy-004","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0168365922002280?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0168365922002280?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jconrel.2022.04.032","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35483637","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Bacteriophages and microbial interactions","Transgenic Plants and Applications","Probiotics and Fermented Foods"],"mesh_terms":["Drug Carriers","Excipients","Saccharomyces cerevisiae","Vaccines","Drug Delivery Systems","Nanoparticles"],"keywords":["Yeast","Saccharomyces cerevisiae","Drug carrier","Drug delivery","Biotechnology","Nucleic acid","Liposome","Chemistry","Nanotechnology","Biology","Biochemistry","Materials science","Vaccine"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-07T00:44:30.823198Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
