In inflammatory bowel diseases, a contribution of EECs to pathogenesis is indicated by autoantibodies affecting EEC function and general disease symptoms like insulin resistance and altered intestinal motility. Particularly, the L cell-derived hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), suggested to orchestrate metabolic-inflammatory responses may influence inflammatory pathways in the intestine. METHODS: mice) as well as murine and human intestinal organoids were used to study molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: mice and inhibition of respiration in organoid cultures supports a causative role for metabolism in steering differentiation. CONCLUSIONS: cells represents a general feature of ileal and colonic inflammation in mice and humans. Given the numerous properties of GLP-1, this reduction likely affects inflammatory processes in the mucosa and disease-related symptoms on multiple levels, and therefore, should be considered a therapeutic target in inflammatory bowel diseases.","journal":"Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology","year":2025,"id":527073,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":3,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9531,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2025-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1403208,"name":"Doriane Aguanno","orcid":"0000-0002-4154-3592","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1403209,"name":"Katharina Kuellmer","orcid":"0009-0001-1753-0978","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1207683,"name":"Amira Metwaly","orcid":"0000-0001-5740-0230","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1403723,"name":"Nadine Waldschmitt","orcid":null,"position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1403210,"name":"Mohamed Ahmed","orcid":"0000-0001-8048-8605","position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1403211,"name":"Sevana Khaloian","orcid":"0009-0009-9154-8103","position":6,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1403724,"name":"Gabriele Hörmannsperger","orcid":null,"position":7,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1033141,"name":"Julien Planchais","orcid":"0000-0002-3427-7425","position":8,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1110722,"name":"Tobias Fromme","orcid":"0000-0001-9150-2513","position":9,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":36349,"name":"R.
