This B-cell population expands in the elderly but is also abnormally expanded in patients with autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ABC differentiation requires unique signaling stimuli, including BCR stimulation, TLR7 and TLR9 signaling, and the action of cytokines. The role of ABCs in the pathogenesis and treatment strategies of SLE has been a research hotspot in recent years. Possible pathogenic mechanisms include the production of autoantibodies and cytokines, as well as stimulation of spontaneous germinal center. Specifically targeting ABCs is a promising strategy for treating SLE. This article reviews the role of ABCs in SLE. Understanding the origin and differentiation of ABCs and their role in SLE will facilitate the discovery of novel drug targets for the treatment of SLE.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":1.9459101490553132,"endowment":1.9459101490553132,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"40334618","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4410106666","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Natural Science Foundation of Shanxi Province","grant_id":"202203021221269","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"82001740","title":null}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":5.157,"citation_percentile":0.95564822,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2025,"count":2},{"year":2026,"count":4}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://doi.org/10.15223/policy-004","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0896841125000782?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0896841125000782?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jaut.2025.103433","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40334618","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Research","Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Diseases","Vasculitis and related conditions"],"mesh_terms":["Aging","Animals","Autoantibodies","B-Lymphocytes","Cell Differentiation","Humans","Lupus Erythematosus, Systemic","Receptors, Antigen, B-Cell","Signal Transduction","B-Lymphocyte Subsets","Cytokines","Germinal Center","Toll-Like Receptor 7","Toll-Like Receptor 9"],"keywords":["Medicine","Immunology","Dermatology","Autoimmune diseases","systemic lupus erythematosus","Age-associated B Cell","T-bet(+) B Cell"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-04T14:35:26.605272Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
