Adrenocortical activities of 17-hydroxylase (17-OH), 17,20-lyase, and 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase were estimated from product to precursor ratio, using Steroid(60) values.<h4>Result(s)</h4>Compared with PCOS patients without AA excess, PCOS patients with AA excess demonstrated significantly greater levels of DHEA(0) and A4(60). PCOS patients with AA excess had significantly higher activity of delta(5)17-OH, compared with PCOS patients without AA excess.<h4>Conclusion(s)</h4>Adrenal androgen excess in PCOS is associated with a greater delta(5)17-OH activity in response to ACTH.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.31748811353631,"endowment":4.31748811353631,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"14711555","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1968635151","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NICHD NIH HHS","grant_id":"K24-HD01346","title":null},{"funder_name":"NCRR NIH HHS","grant_id":"M01-RR00032","title":null},{"funder_name":"NICHD NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01-HD29364","title":null}],"total_grants":3,"fwci":5.538,"citation_percentile":0.95143203,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1},{"year":2013,"count":2},{"year":2014,"count":9},{"year":2015,"count":5},{"year":2016,"count":2},{"year":2017,"count":3},{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":3},{"year":2020,"count":3},{"year":2021,"count":2},{"year":2022,"count":4},{"year":2023,"count":7},{"year":2024,"count":1},{"year":2025,"count":2}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"http://www.elsevier.com/open-access/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0015028203022878?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0015028203022878?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.fertnstert.2003.07.008","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14711555","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Ovarian function and disorders","Hormonal and reproductive studies","Adrenal Hormones and Disorders","17-alpha-Hydroxyprogesterone","3-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenases","Adrenal Cortex","Adrenocorticotropic Hormone","Adult","Androstenedione","Case-Control Studies","Cross-Sectional Studies","Dehydroepiandrosterone","Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate","Female","Humans","Hyperandrogenism","Polycystic Ovary Syndrome","Pregnenolone","Progesterone","Prospective Studies","Steroid 17-alpha-Hydroxylase","Testosterone"],"mesh_terms":["Adrenal Cortex","Adrenocorticotropic Hormone","Adult","Androstenedione","Cross-Sectional Studies","Dehydroepiandrosterone","Female","Humans","Polycystic Ovary Syndrome","Pregnenolone","Progesterone","Prospective Studies","Steroid 17-alpha-Hydroxylase","Testosterone","3-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenases","Case-Control Studies","Hyperandrogenism","Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate","17-alpha-Hydroxyprogesterone"],"keywords":["Endocrinology","Internal medicine","Pregnenolone","Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate","Polycystic ovary","Dehydroepiandrosterone","Androgen","Adrenocorticotropic hormone","Hyperandrogenism","Androgen Excess","Testosterone (patch)","Congenital adrenal hyperplasia","Androstenedione","Medicine","Hydrocortisone","Adrenarche","Zona reticularis","Basal (medicine)","Chemistry","Hormone","Insulin","Steroid","Insulin resistance","Angiotensin II"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-23T14:26:58.611218Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
