It is generally assumed that both editing substrates, non‐cognate aminoacyl‐adenylate and misacylated tRNA, are hydrolyzed at the same editing domain, distant from the active site. Here, we present the first example of an aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetase (seryl‐tRNA synthetase) that naturally lacks an editing domain, but possesses a hydrolytic activity toward non‐cognate aminoacyl‐adenylates. Our data reveal that tRNA‐independent pre‐transfer editing may proceed within the enzyme active site without shuttling the non‐cognate aminoacyl‐adenylate intermediate to the remote editing site.
","journal":"FEBS Letters","year":2007,"id":651722,"datarank":0.6238324625039509,"base_score":4.1588830833596715,"endowment":4.1588830833596715,"self_citation_contribution":0.6238324625039509,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.6238324625039509,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":63,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":null,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":null,"fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1699827,"name":"Jasmina Rokov-Plavec","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1699828,"name":"Ivana Weygand-Durasevic","orcid":null,"position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1699826,"name":"Ita Gruic-Sovulj","orcid":null,"position":0,"is_corresponding":false}],"reference_count":0,"raw_metadata":{"has_enrichment":true,"resolved":true,"title":"Hydrolysis of non‐cognate aminoacyl‐adenylates by a class II aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetase lacking an editing domain","abstract":"
Aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases, a group of enzymes catalyzing aminoacyl‐tRNA formation, may possess inherent editing activity to clear mistakes arising through the selection of non‐cognate amino acid.
