{"doi":"10.1016/j.ebiom.2024.105039","title":"Taking a step beyond serology: progress in the search for a biomarker predicting the risk of maternal-fetal transmission of cytomegalovirus (CMV)","abstract":"Congenital cytomegalovirus infection (cCMV) is the most important infectious cause of newborn disability, including sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), in the United States and Europe. Pregnancies affected by cCMV are at an increased risk of miscarriage and intrauterine fetal demise.1 CMV infections acquired during pregnancy can be either primary or recurrent, and typically do not produce symptoms in the pregnant patient.
