A regression model was used to examine the variables that predicted glycemic control. Moreover, a regression analysis examining the effect of each self-efficacy subscale on its respective diabetes self -management (DSM) behavior was carried out.
Results
The most frequently reported DSM behaviors were foot care followed by medication taking self-management behavior. The least frequently reported DSM behaviors were exercise self-management behavior and blood sugar testing behavior. Self-efficacy was associated with higher levels of diet, exercise, blood sugar testing, and medication taking self-management behaviors. Diet self-management behaviors and oral hypoglycemic agents (OHA) use were significantly independent predictors of glycemic control HbA1c <7% (53 mmol/mol).
Conclusions
The findings can serve to help clinicians have a better understanding on the extent to which different self-efficacy parameters have an influence on self-management behaviors, which will in turn lead to better glycemic control and thus improved HbA1c levels.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.394449154672439,"endowment":4.394449154672439,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"29278711","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2776372788","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":2.4995,"citation_percentile":0.90799345,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2018,"count":2},{"year":2019,"count":7},{"year":2020,"count":7},{"year":2021,"count":15},{"year":2022,"count":12},{"year":2023,"count":18},{"year":2024,"count":12},{"year":2025,"count":4},{"year":2026,"count":3}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/tdm/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0168822717311208?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0168822717311208?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.diabres.2017.12.014","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29278711","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Diabetes Management and Education","Diabetes, Cardiovascular Risks, and Lipoproteins","Diabetes Management and Research"],"mesh_terms":["Blood Glucose","Cross-Sectional Studies","Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2","Female","Humans","Male","Middle Aged","Surveys and Questionnaires","Saudi Arabia","Self Care","Self Efficacy"],"keywords":["Medicine","Glycemic","Cross-sectional study","Diabetes mellitus","Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus","Internal medicine","Type 2 diabetes","Self care","Endocrinology","Health care","Pathology","Diet","Exercise","Hba1c","Self-efficacy","Patient Self-management"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-29T11:33:53.733498Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
