Activation of this complex often involves the adaptor protein ASC and upstream sensors including NLRP1, NLRP3, NLRC4, AIM2, and pyrin, which are activated by different stimuli including infectious agents and changes in cell homeostasis. Here we discuss new regulatory mechanisms that have been identified for the canonical inflammasomes, the most recently identified NLRP9b inflammasome, and the new gasdermin family of proteins that mediate pyroptosis and other forms of regulated cell death.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":5.805134968916488,"endowment":5.805134968916488,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"29128729","pmcid":"PMC5857399","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2767472409","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIAID NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 AI101935","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIAID NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 AI124346","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIAMS NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 AR056296","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIAID NIH HHS","grant_id":"R37 AI101935","title":null},{"funder_name":"NCI NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 CA163507","title":null}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":15.2014,"citation_percentile":0.99446,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2018,"count":37},{"year":2019,"count":51},{"year":2020,"count":62},{"year":2021,"count":47},{"year":2022,"count":39},{"year":2023,"count":37},{"year":2024,"count":31},{"year":2025,"count":16},{"year":2026,"count":10}],"oa_status":"green","license":"http://www.elsevier.com/open-access/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/5857399","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/5857399","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0952791517301577?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S0952791517301577?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.coi.2017.10.011","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29128729","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://europepmc.org/pmc/articles/PMC5857399","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Inflammasome and immune disorders","Gout, Hyperuricemia, Uric Acid","Heme Oxygenase-1 and Carbon Monoxide"],"mesh_terms":["NLR Proteins","Pyrin","NLR Family, Pyrin Domain-Containing 3 Protein","Gasdermins","Animals","Calcium-Binding Proteins","DNA-Binding Proteins","Humans","Neoplasm Proteins","Adaptor Proteins, Signal Transducing","Apoptosis Regulatory Proteins","Neuronal Apoptosis-Inhibitory Protein","CARD Signaling Adaptor Proteins","Inflammasomes"],"keywords":["Pyroptosis","AIM2","Inflammasome","Pyrin domain","NLRC4","Signal transducing adaptor protein","Cell biology","Caspase 1","Biology","Programmed cell death","NLRP1","Caspase","Inflammation","Apoptosis","Signal transduction","Immunology","Genetics"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-26T11:18:56.954888Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
