{"doi":"10.1016/j.cgh.2020.05.036","title":"Antibiotic Use Associated With Risk of Colorectal Polyps in a Nationwide Study","abstract":"BACKGROUND & AIMS: Use of antibiotics affects the composition of the microbiome and might affect development of colorectal polyps, which are precursors to colorectal cancer. METHODS: We performed a nested case-control study in Sweden of 45,744 patients with a colorectal polyp (cases) in the nationwide gastrointestinal ESPRESSO histopathology cohort, using unaffected full siblings as controls (n = 93,307). Polyps were classified by morphology SnoMed codes into conventional adenomas and serrated polyps. Through linkage to the Prescribed Drug Register, we assessed use and cumulative dispensations of antibiotic until 1 year prior to polyp diagnosis for cases and their sibling controls. RESULTS: < .001). CONCLUSIONS: In a nationwide case-control study in Sweden, after accounting for hereditary and early life environmental factors, antibiotic use was associated with increased risk of colorectal polyps. Our findings indicate a role for intestinal dysbiosis in early stages of colorectal carcinogenesis.","journal":"Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology","year":2020,"id":101528,"datarank":0.49983067652628066,"base_score":3.332204510175204,"endowment":3.332204510175204,"self_citation_contribution":0.49983067652628066,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.49983067652628066,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":27,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.7815,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2020-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":41055,"name":"Long H.
