When coupled with the growing epidemic of overweight and obesity, n utritional strategies have garnered considerable research attention due to their potential to modulate both aging and metabolism at the cellular and molecular levels. Several key nutritional influences are currently being studied for their effects on aging biology, including caloric restriction, protein restriction, time-restricted eating, ketosis, and the gut microbiome. Of particular relevance is the role of dietary interventions in older adults with obesity, which must carefully balance the cardiometabolic benefits of weight loss with the unintended musculoskeletal losses, including muscle and bone mass. To discuss these critical issues, the Research Centers Collaborative Network sponsored a 1.5-d multidisciplinary workshop bringing together basic, clinical, and translational scientists in the fields of nutrition and aging biology. This meeting included sessions on calorie and protein restriction, timing of food intake, the gut microbiome, and obesity treatment for older adults. The agenda and recordings are archived at https://www.rccn-aging.org/nutrition-and-aging-biology. Here we describe the workshop's themes and discussions and highlight research gaps that, if filled, will considerably advance our understanding of the role of nutrition in healthy aging. This article summarizes proceedings from a workshop on nutrition and the biology of aging and provides recommendations for future research to fill critical knowledge gaps.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"40697195","pmcid":"PMC12281843","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4411404182","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"USDA Agricultural Research Service","grant_id":"58-8050-3-003","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institute on Aging","grant_id":"U24AG058556","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"2U24AG058556-04","title":"Research Centers Collaborative Network Renewal"},{"funder_name":"U.S. Department of Agriculture","grant_id":"","title":null},{"funder_name":"American Federation for Aging Research","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.15046812,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"gold","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://cdn.nutrition.org/action/showPdf?pii=S2475299125029464","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://cdn.nutrition.org/action/showPdf?pii=S2475299125029464","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S2475299125029464?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S2475299125029464?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cdnut.2025.107485","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40697195","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://doaj.org/article/7422877525894d53b71c1e9e5ba0cc4e","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/12281843","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC12281843","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC12281843?pdf=render","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cdnut.2025.107485","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Diet and metabolism studies","Dietary Effects on Health","Nutritional Studies and Diet","0303 health sciences","03 medical and health sciences"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Gerontology","Medical education","Medicine","Aging","Obesity","Nutrition","Caloric restriction","Older Adults","Geroscience","Aging Biology","RC620-627","Nutrition.
