As an example, the resistance of cancer mitochondria against apoptosis-associated permeabilization and the altered contribution of these organelles to metabolism are closely related. Similarly, the constitutive activation of signaling cascades that stimulate cell growth has a profound impact on anabolic metabolism. Here, we review the peculiarities of tumor cell metabolism that might be taken advantage of for cancer treatment. Specifically, we discuss the alterations in signal transduction pathways and/or enzymatic machineries that account for metabolic reprogramming of transformed cells.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":7.746732907753622,"endowment":7.746732907753622,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"18538731","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1991429659","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":41.0537,"citation_percentile":0.99883818,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":138},{"year":2013,"count":148},{"year":2014,"count":170},{"year":2015,"count":146},{"year":2016,"count":134},{"year":2017,"count":129},{"year":2018,"count":125},{"year":2019,"count":120},{"year":2020,"count":136},{"year":2021,"count":109},{"year":2022,"count":155},{"year":2023,"count":129},{"year":2024,"count":142},{"year":2025,"count":100},{"year":2026,"count":53}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"https://www.elsevier.com/open-access/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1535610808001608?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1535610808001608?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ccr.2008.05.005","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18538731","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://hal.science/hal-00319748","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Cancer, Hypoxia, and Metabolism","Mitochondrial Function and Pathology","Metabolism, Diabetes, and Cancer","Animals","Antineoplastic Agents","Apoptosis","Cell Proliferation","Drug Design","Energy Metabolism","Enzyme Inhibitors","Humans","Mitochondria","Neoplasm Invasiveness","Neoplasm Metastasis","Neoplasms","Neovascularization, Pathologic","Signal Transduction","Tumor Escape"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Antineoplastic Agents","Energy Metabolism","Enzyme Inhibitors","Humans","Mitochondria","Neoplasm Invasiveness","Neoplasm Metastasis","Neoplasms","Neovascularization, Pathologic","Drug Design","Signal Transduction","Apoptosis","Tumor Escape","Cell Proliferation"],"keywords":["Warburg effect","Cancer cell","Anaerobic glycolysis","Biology","Anabolism","Cell biology","Mitochondrion","Signal transduction","Cell metabolism","Cancer","Cell","Cancer research","Biochemistry","Genetics"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T03:58:47.664931Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
