{"doi":"10.1016/j.adro.2022.100962","title":"In Reply to Qureshi et al","abstract":"We appreciate Qureshi et al.’s interest and comments on our evaluation of outcomes from our team's dedicated head and neck cancer volume rounds. Our volume rounds occur once weekly and are followed by treatment plan review during traditional chart rounds. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, these rounds have occurred virtually and are attended by our institution's 9 head and neck radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, residents, and students. In addition to ensuring high quality patient care, volume rounds are used to identify patients for clinical trials before initiation of treatment and for educating trainees. Urgent cases that require immediate attention are reviewed on an ad hoc basis in smaller groups outside of the weekly volume rounds meeting. These cases are presented again during the formal meeting for educational purposes and additional feedback. We have considered implementing twice weekly volume rounds, but we realized that attendance at each meeting would be reduced because of conflicting schedules and responsibilities. There is a balance between the number of meetings and faculty engagement, especially in the era of ever-increasing virtual meetings. Each institution will ultimately settle on a schedule that best suits their needs with the goal of optimizing patient care through robust case discussions and education.
