We indicate important gaps in the current literature and point to opportunities for additional research in this area.
Recent findings
Randomized, controlled, efficacy studies and implementation research show that lifestyle intervention can be an effective, cost-effective, and feasible method for reducing diabetes risk, improving cardiometabolic health, and improving lifestyle behaviors in South Asian populations, a population at high diabetes risk and elevated rates of diabetes risk factors. Additional research is needed to address diabetes risk reduction in normal-weight South Asians and individuals with impaired fasting glucose; improve community-level implementation, individual uptake, and dissemination of proven programs; and assess long-term outcomes of interventions.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.0794415416798357,"endowment":2.0794415416798357,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"34097137","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W3171362409","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases","grant_id":"P30DK111024","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities","grant_id":"K23MD015088","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities","grant_id":"3U54MD000538-17S1","title":"Scaling Community-Clinical Linkage Models to Address Diabetes and Hypertension Disparities in the Southeastern U.S."},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"3P30DK111024-07S2","title":"Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"5K23MD015088-04","title":"Better Together: Leveraging primary care and social network resources to create a patient-centered approach to improve diabetes among immigrant communities"}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":0.6734,"citation_percentile":0.69009367,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2022,"count":2},{"year":2023,"count":3},{"year":2025,"count":2}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"Springer TDM","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11892-021-01393-5.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11892-021-01393-5/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s11892-021-01393-5","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34097137","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11892-021-01393-5","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Diabetes, Cardiovascular Risks, and Lipoproteins","Diabetes Management and Education","Obesity and Health Practices","0301 basic medicine","03 medical and health sciences","0302 clinical medicine","Asian People","Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2","Humans","Life Style","Prediabetic State","Risk Factors","Risk Reduction Behavior"],"mesh_terms":["Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2","Humans","Life Style","Prediabetic State","Risk Factors","Risk Reduction Behavior","Asian People"],"keywords":["Medicine","Diabetes mellitus","Psychological intervention","Gerontology","Endocrinology","Nursing","Prevention","Type 2 diabetes","Prediabetes","Lifestyle","South Asian","Implementation Research","Prediabetic State","Asian People","Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2","Risk Factors","Humans","Life Style","Risk Reduction Behavior"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":1,"sdg_label":"1.
