This fact highlights the importance of the National institutes of Health's initiative to map the human microbiome. The Human Microbiome Project was the first large-scale mapping of the human microbiome of 5 body sites: GI tract, mouth, vagina, skin and nasal cavity using culture-independent methods. The bladder was not originally tested because it was considered to be sterile and there were complexities regarding sample collection. Over the last couple years our team along with other investigators have shown that a urinary microbiome exists and for most individuals it plays a protective role.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":5.099866427824199,"endowment":5.099866427824199,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"27182288","pmcid":"PMC4864995","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2291217197","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIDDK NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 DK104718","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIDDK NIH HHS","grant_id":"R21 DK097435","title":null},{"funder_name":"Astellas Pharma US","grant_id":"","title":null}],"total_grants":3,"fwci":11.5441,"citation_percentile":0.9895499,"influential_citations":5,"citation_trend":[{"year":2015,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":3},{"year":2017,"count":14},{"year":2018,"count":11},{"year":2019,"count":21},{"year":2020,"count":17},{"year":2021,"count":27},{"year":2022,"count":17},{"year":2023,"count":20},{"year":2024,"count":16},{"year":2025,"count":9},{"year":2026,"count":7}],"oa_status":"green","license":"http://www.springer.com/tdm","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/4864995","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/pmc4864995?pdf=render","host_type":"GREEN"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/4864995","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11884-016-0345-8.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11884-016-0345-8/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11884-016-0345-8","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s11884-016-0345-8","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27182288","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Urinary Tract Infections Management","Pelvic floor disorders treatments","Gut microbiota and health","Medicine","History","Biology"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Microbiome","Medicine","Urinary system","Urology","Physiology","Gynecology","Bioinformatics","Internal medicine","Biology","Bacteria","Urgency Incontinence","Urinary Microbiome"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-10T02:09:58.269289Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
