(Nature 566:378–382, 2019) introduced a new indicator measuring disruption (<jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$${DI}_{1}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML\"><mml:msub><mml:mrow><mml:mi>DI</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mn>1</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula>). Bornmann et al. (Do disruption index indicators measure what they propose to measure? The comparison of several indicator variants with assessments by peers, 2019. <jats:ext-link xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\" ext-link-type=\"uri\" xlink:href=\"https://arxiv.org/abs/1911.08775\">https://arxiv.org/abs/1911.08775</jats:ext-link>) compared variants of the disruption index and pointed to <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$${DI}_{5}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML\"><mml:msub><mml:mrow><mml:mi>DI</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mn>5</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> as an interesting variant. The calculation of a field-specific version of <jats:inline-formula><jats:alternatives><jats:tex-math>$${DI}_{5}$$</jats:tex-math><mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML\"><mml:msub><mml:mrow><mml:mi>DI</mml:mi></mml:mrow><mml:mn>5</mml:mn></mml:msub></mml:math></jats:alternatives></jats:inline-formula> (focusing on disruptiveness within the same field) for <jats:italic>Scientometrics</jats:italic> papers in the current study reveals that the variant is possibly able to identify landmark papers in scientometrics.
