Among minority groups, Asian Americans are particularly understudied. Chinese Americans are one of the largest and fastest growing Asian American subgroups, but they rarely see their culturally relevant foods reflected in national nutrition guidance. This commentary explores the nuances of Chinese American dietary acculturation, highlighting suggestions for more culturally tailored nutrition counseling and the impact of structural barriers. We discuss the need for more targeted research, clearer educational tools for patients, and better training for providers. Dietary interventions grounded in cultural humility and structural awareness can foster improved patient trust and adherence, ultimately reducing preventable chronic disease burden.
