However, awareness of the exposure to the indoor microbiome and its health effects remains poor. Outdoor environment (soil and air), indoor sources (ventilation, dampness and building materials), human occupants, and pets compose the indoor microbial community. It has been estimated that up to 500-1000 different species can be present in house dust. House dust is a major source and reservoir of indoor microbiome, which influences human microbiome and determines health and disease. Herein, we review the origins and the components of the fungal and bacterial communities in house dust and their possible effect on human health, in particular on allergic disorders, intestinal microbiome, and immune responses. We expect to lay a solid foundation for the further study on the mechanisms of how the house dust microbes interact with the host microbiome and the human immune system.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.304065093204169,"endowment":4.304065093204169,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"30811000","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2910125763","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Wellcome Trust","grant_id":"unidentified","title":"unidentified"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"5U24HG008956-02","title":"NHGRI Genome Sequencing Program Coordinating Center"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"3UM1HG006493-07S2","title":"UW Center for Mendelian Genomics"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"2R56DC011803-07A1","title":"Identifying Genes for Non-Syndromic Recessive Deafness-A Collaborative Study"}],"total_grants":4,"fwci":3.0339,"citation_percentile":0.91134728,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":7},{"year":2021,"count":10},{"year":2022,"count":12},{"year":2023,"count":13},{"year":2024,"count":18},{"year":2025,"count":10},{"year":2026,"count":2}],"oa_status":"green","license":"other-oa","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/10138/320950","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/10138/320950","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10123-019-00057-5/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s10123-019-00057-5.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s10123-019-00057-5","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30811000","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://helda.helsinki.fi/bitstream/10138/320950/1/Shan2019_Article_HouseDustMicrobiomeAndHumanHea.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10123-019-00057-5","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Indoor Air Quality and Microbial Exposure","Gut microbiota and health","Pediatric health and respiratory diseases","0301 basic medicine","0303 health sciences","03 medical and health sciences","Bacteria","Dust","Environmental Microbiology","Fungi","Humans","Microbiota","Risk Assessment"],"mesh_terms":["Bacteria","Dust","Environmental Microbiology","Fungi","Humans","Risk Assessment","Microbiota"],"keywords":["Microbiome","Human health","Indoor air","Human microbiome","Environmental health","Biology","Ecology","Environmental science","Environmental engineering","Medicine","Bioinformatics","Bacterial community","Allergic diseases","Gut Microbiome","Fungal Community","House Dust Microbiome","Bacteria","Microbiota","Environmental Microbiology","Fungi","Humans","Dust","Risk Assessment"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":3,"sdg_label":"3.
