We examined the intrinsic connectivity during rest within and between these networks. Six-minute resting-state scans were obtained. Using a network-based approach, connectivity within and between the dorsal and ventral attention, the default mode and the salience networks was compared between the ADHD and control group. The ADHD group displayed hyperconnectivity between the two attention networks and within the default mode and ventral attention network. The salience network was hypoconnected to the dorsal attention network. There were trends towards hyperconnectivity within the dorsal attention network and between the salience and ventral attention network in ADHD. Connectivity within and between other networks was unrelated to ADHD. Our findings highlight the altered connectivity within and between attention networks, and between them and the salience network in ADHD. One hypothesis to be tested in future studies is that individuals with ADHD are affected by an imbalance between ventral and dorsal attention systems with the former playing a dominant role during task engagement, making individuals with ADHD highly susceptible to distraction by salient task-irrelevant stimuli.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.574710978503383,"endowment":4.574710978503383,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"26260900","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1125881502","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Fund for Scientific Research – Flanders","grant_id":"3G084810","title":null},{"funder_name":"Wellcome Trust","grant_id":"unidentified","title":"unidentified"}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":3.1361,"citation_percentile":0.9162235,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2015,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":3},{"year":2017,"count":6},{"year":2018,"count":11},{"year":2019,"count":10},{"year":2020,"count":9},{"year":2021,"count":16},{"year":2022,"count":10},{"year":2023,"count":11},{"year":2024,"count":7},{"year":2025,"count":8},{"year":2026,"count":3}],"oa_status":"green","license":"other-oa","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://biblio.ugent.be/publication/6901057","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://biblio.ugent.be/publication/6901057","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26260900","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://eprints.soton.ac.uk/385987/","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://biblio.ugent.be/publication/6901057/file/8027308.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0","host_type":""},{"url":"https://biblio.ugent.be/publication/6901057/file/6901072","host_type":""},{"url":"https://biblio.ugent.be/publication/6901057/file/8027308","host_type":""},{"url":"http://doi.org/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0","host_type":""},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/1854/LU-6901057","host_type":""},{"url":"https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1007/s00406-015-0630-0","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Functional Brain Connectivity Studies","Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder","EEG and Brain-Computer Interfaces","03 medical and health sciences","0302 clinical medicine"],"mesh_terms":["Adolescent","Adult","Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity","Brain","Brain Mapping","Female","Humans","Image Processing, Computer-Assisted","Magnetic Resonance Imaging","Male","Neural Pathways","Neuropsychological Tests","Oxygen","Psychiatric Status Rating Scales","Rest","Young Adult"],"keywords":["Default mode network","Task-positive network","Salience (neuroscience)","Psychology","Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder","Distraction","Neuroscience","Attention network","Resting state fMRI","Cognitive psychology","Functional connectivity","Neuroimaging","Dorsum","Psychiatry","Medicine","Adult","Male","Adolescent","DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER","Brain networks","Rest","610","Neuropsychological Tests","ACTIVATION","Young Adult","SYSTEMS","616","PARCELLATION","Neural Pathways","Image Processing, Computer-Assisted","ADHD","Humans","Resting state","SCALE","METAANALYSIS","Psychiatric Status Rating Scales","Connectivity","Brain Mapping","fMRI","Brain","Science General","Magnetic Resonance Imaging","Oxygen","ANTERIOR CINGULATE","Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity","Female"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-26T17:53:55.300330Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
