There are, however, no investigations of the pharmacological effects of this combination in vivo.
Objectives
The technique of high-speed chronoamperometry using Nafion-coated single carbon-fiber microelectrodes was used to study amphetamine-evoked dopamine (DA) release produced by Adderall, D-amphetamine, or D,L-amphetamine in the striatum of anesthetized male Fischer 344 (F344) rats. The amphetamine solutions were locally applied from micropipettes by pressure ejection.
Results
Local applications of Adderall resulted in significantly greater DA release signal amplitudes with prolonged time course of dopamine release and re-uptake as compared to D-amphetamine and D,L-amphetamine.
Conclusions
These data support the hypothesis that the combination of amphetamine enantiomers and salts in Adderall has effects on DA release, which result in increased and prolonged DA release, compared to D- and D,L-amphetamine.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.295836866004329,"endowment":3.295836866004329,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"17031708","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2066420821","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIDA NIH HHS","grant_id":"DA017186","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIDA NIH HHS","grant_id":"DA14944","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIMH NIH HHS","grant_id":"MH-70840","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIMH NIH HHS","grant_id":"MH01245","title":null}],"total_grants":4,"fwci":1.2868,"citation_percentile":0.77747122,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":4},{"year":2013,"count":2},{"year":2014,"count":2},{"year":2015,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":1},{"year":2018,"count":2},{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2023,"count":1},{"year":2025,"count":2}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"http://www.springer.com/tdm","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s00213-006-0550-9.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00213-006-0550-9/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s00213-006-0550-9","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00213-006-0550-9","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17031708","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder","Neurotransmitter Receptor Influence on Behavior","Forensic Toxicology and Drug Analysis"],"mesh_terms":["Amphetamine","Amphetamines","Central Nervous System Stimulants","Animals","Corpus Striatum","Dopamine","Isomerism","Male","Microelectrodes","Potentiometry","Rats, Inbred F344","Time Factors","Neurotransmitter Agents","Dopamine Plasma Membrane Transport Proteins","Rats"],"keywords":["Amphetamine","Dopamine","Dextroamphetamine","Chemistry","Pharmacology","Striatum","Endocrinology","Medicine"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-12T05:00:16.158507Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
