Some species of the Chironomus genus have been extensively used in ecotoxicological assays. Among these, Chironomus tentans is usually utilized in the USA and Chironomus sancticaroli in Brazil. We conducted ecotoxicological bioassays to compare a population of C. sancticaroli, kept for 6 years under laboratory conditions, with a sylvatic population of the same species, collected in the field. The aim was to test the hypothesis that populations of C. sancticaroli, maintained in the laboratory for long periods, could have a different response to stressors/substances. We analyzed the responses of C. sancticaroli for potassium chloride, zinc chloride, potassium dichromate, linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) and caffeine. The results showed no significant differences between the two populations in the analyses and seems to indicate the possible use of C. sancticaroli from populations kept in the laboratory for long periods.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.258096538021482,"endowment":3.258096538021482,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"31209517","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2950850557","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo","grant_id":"2016/21946-8","title":null}],"total_grants":1,"fwci":1.6253,"citation_percentile":0.80481039,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2021,"count":4},{"year":2022,"count":10},{"year":2023,"count":1},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":3},{"year":2026,"count":3}],"oa_status":"green","license":"other-oa","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00128-019-02644-8","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00128-019-02644-8","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s00128-019-02644-8.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00128-019-02644-8/fulltext.html","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00128-019-02644-8","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31209517","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Environmental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology","Freshwater macroinvertebrate diversity and ecology","Pharmaceutical and Antibiotic Environmental Impacts"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Biological Assay","Brazil","Chironomidae","Environmental Monitoring","Larva","Water Pollutants, Chemical","Ecotoxicology"],"keywords":["Chironomidae","Ecotoxicology","Chironomus","Biology","Population","Bioassay","Toxicology","Potassium dichromate","Zoology","Environmental chemistry","Ecology","Larva","Chemistry","Environmental health","Medicine","Population genetics"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Life in Land"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T02:59:12.531679Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
