The formation of dNTPs can be either through the ‘de novo’ pathway utilizing ribonucleotides as precursors, or using preformed deoxyribonucleotides via the ‘salvage’ pathway [1,2] (see fig. 1). However, due to the limited pool size of the deoxyribonucleotides in mammalian cells, rapid synthesis is necessary for proper cell replication. In the early 1950’s, in vivo experiments with C 14 -labelled nucleosides in rats revealed that deoxyribonucleotides were formed by a direct reduction of ribonucleotides [3]. De novo synthesis of dNTPs requires the action of the redox enzyme ribonucleotides reductase (RR) (EC 1.17.4.1). These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.995732273553991,"endowment":2.995732273553991,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"3326028","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W27916948","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":2.9492,"citation_percentile":0.83573487,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2014,"count":2},{"year":2016,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/978-3-0348-9289-6_2.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-0348-9289-6_2","host_type":"ebook platform"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3326028","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Metal-Catalyzed Oxygenation Mechanisms","Metal complexes synthesis and properties","Porphyrin and Phthalocyanine Chemistry"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Antineoplastic Agents","Antiviral Agents","Neoplasms, Experimental","Ribonucleotide Reductases","Structure-Activity Relationship"],"keywords":["Ribonucleotide reductase","Deoxyribonucleotides","Ribonucleotide","Chemistry","Biochemistry","DNA synthesis","DNA","DNA replication","De novo synthesis","Enzyme","Nucleotide"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-09T13:39:25.041477Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
