A significant change in maximal flow at functional residual capacity (Vmax<jats:sub>FRC</jats:sub>) was defined as being greater than twice the coefficient of variation of the baseline measurements. There was no difference in the infants' response to saline or salbutamol. Wheezy infants, less than 6 months of age, do not have an increase in Vmax<jats:sub>FRC</jats:sub> following a single dose of inhaled salbutamol.
