{"doi":"10.1002/mog2.70048","title":"Crosstalk Between Cancer‐Associated Fibroblasts and Immune Cells: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications","abstract":"ABSTRACT Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) interact with multiple immune cells, such as T cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and other immune cells, to display both antitumor or protumor effects. Despite enormous progress in immunotherapy, the CAF‐associated resistance of immunotherapy is still urgent to be solved. In this review, we summarize the origins and heterogeneity of CAFs in the TME, including the subpopulations of CAFs and their biological function. Then we discuss the communications between CAFs and tumor‐associated macrophages, T lymphocytes, tumor‐associated neutrophils, and other immune cells. CAFs cannot only recruit immune cells in the TME, but also trigger polarization, proliferation, infiltration of immune cells, thereby promoting tumor progression. Inversely, some immune cells promote the recruitment, transdifferentiation, and proliferation of CAFs. We also focus on the current progress in therapeutic strategies targeting CAF‐elimination, CAF‐reprograming, downstream signaling blockade, and CAF‐induced extracellular matrix barrier elimination to enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy and related clinical trials. Overall, we aim to provide the conceptions of CAF‐immunocyte crosstalk in the TME and application of immunotherapy, paving the way for the development of precise and individualized strategies through clarifying the interaction between CAFs and immunocytes.","journal":"MedComm – Oncology","year":2025,"id":537644,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":1,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.952,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2025-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1013919,"name":"Xingpeng Di","orcid":"0000-0002-1921-5509","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1423429,"name":"Jiawei Chen","orcid":"0000-0002-0607-6351","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1204220,"name":"Jingwen Wei","orcid":"0000-0003-4436-3527","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1204992,"name":"Tianyue Li","orcid":null,"position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1013924,"name":"Kunjie Wang","orcid":"0000-0001-8289-2791","position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1204221,"name":"Banghua Liao","orcid":"0000-0002-1017-4990","position":6,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1013925,"name":"Deyi Luo","orcid":"0000-0002-9436-036X","position":7,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1423428,"name":"Ya Li","orcid":"0000-0002-4795-3146","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":176,"raw_metadata":null,"created_at":"2026-07-19T02:52:12.997494Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
