{"doi":"10.1002/jclp.22239","title":"Motivational Interviewing as an Adjunct to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety","abstract":"<jats:sec><jats:title>Objective</jats:title><jats:p>This study examined the effect of a single session motivational interviewing (MI) intervention on engagement in a 12‐week transdiagnostic group cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) treatment for anxiety.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Method</jats:title><jats:p>Participants were randomized to MI (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic> = 20) or non‐MI (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic> = 19) conditions before enrolling in a 12‐week group CBT program. Participants in the MI condition received an individual 50‐minute MI session adapted from the longer MI pretreatment protocol, developed by Westra and Dozois (<jats:ext-link xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\" xlink:href=\"#jclp22239-bib-0036\"/>) and Westra (<jats:ext-link xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\" xlink:href=\"#jclp22239-bib-0033\"/>).</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results</jats:title><jats:p>Rates of treatment initiation and treatment expectancies were significantly higher among participants who received the MI pretreatment intervention.
