{"doi":"10.1002/hbm.25327","title":"Development and evaluation of a high performance <scp>T1</scp>‐weighted brain template for use in studies on older adults","abstract":"Τhe accuracy of template-based neuroimaging investigations depends on the template's image quality and representativeness of the individuals under study. Yet a thorough, quantitative investigation of how available standardized and study-specific T1-weighted templates perform in studies on older adults has not been conducted. The purpose of this work was to construct a high-quality standardized T1-weighted template specifically designed for the older adult brain, and systematically compare the new template to several other standardized and study-specific templates in terms of image quality, performance in spatial normalization of older adult data and detection of small inter-group morphometric differences, and representativeness of the older adult brain. The new template was constructed with state-of-the-art spatial normalization of high-quality data from 222 older adults. It was shown that the new template (a) exhibited high image sharpness, (b) provided higher inter-subject spatial normalization accuracy and (c) allowed detection of smaller inter-group morphometric differences compared to other standardized templates, (d) had similar performance to that of study-specific templates constructed with the same methodology, and (e) was highly representative of the older adult brain.","journal":"Human Brain Mapping","year":2021,"id":173120,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":24,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9364,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2021-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":710897,"name":"Mohammad Rakeen Niaz","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":710191,"name":"Yingjuan Wu","orcid":"0000-0002-0580-306X","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":333551,"name":"Xiaoxiao Qi","orcid":"0000-0001-8320-1104","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":710192,"name":"Shengwei Zhang","orcid":"0000-0003-0840-0730","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":710193,"name":"Marinos Kontzialis","orcid":"0000-0001-9792-4979","position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":674712,"name":"Carles Javierre‐Petit","orcid":null,"position":6,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":710194,"name":"Mahir Tazwar","orcid":"0000-0002-6270-8798","position":7,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":19445,"name":"Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative","orcid":null,"position":8,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":778,"name":"David A.
