This study uses a concrete example in an attempt to evaluate a research institute from the area of social sciences and humanities with the help of data from <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">G</jats:styled-content>oogle <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">S</jats:styled-content>cholar (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GS</jats:styled-content>). In order to use <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GS</jats:styled-content> for a bibliometric study, we developed procedures for the normalization of citation impact, building on the procedures of classical bibliometrics. In order to test the convergent validity of the normalized citation impact scores, we calculated normalized scores for a subset of the publications based on data from the Web of Science (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">WoS)</jats:styled-content> and <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">S</jats:styled-content>copus. Even if scores calculated with the help of <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GS</jats:styled-content> and the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">WoS</jats:styled-content>/<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">S</jats:styled-content>copus are not identical for the different publication types (considered here), they are so similar that they result in the same assessment of the institute investigated in this study: For example, the institute's papers whose journals are covered in the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">WoS</jats:styled-content> are cited at about an average rate (compared with the other papers in the journals).</jats:p>","journal":"Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology","year":2016,"id":2146,"datarank":4.202573323025196,"base_score":4.304065093204169,"endowment":4.304065093204169,"self_citation_contribution":0.6456097639806255,"citation_network_contribution":3.5569635590445703,"self_endowment_contribution":0.6456097639806255,"citer_contribution":3.5569635590445703,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":73,"citer_count":68,"citers_with_citation_signal":60,"citers_with_endowment":60,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.0862,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2016-03-03","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1452,"name":"Andreas Thor","orcid":"0000-0003-2575-2893","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":5442,"name":"Werner Marx","orcid":"0000-0002-1763-5753","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":25150,"name":"Hermann Schier","orcid":null,"position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":661,"name":"Lutz Bornmann","orcid":"0000-0003-0810-7091","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":41,"raw_metadata":{"citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-03-01T18:20:47.508186Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
