This article examines the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">Q</jats:styled-content>uacquarelli <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">S</jats:styled-content>ymonds (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">QS</jats:styled-content>) <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">W</jats:styled-content>orld <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">U</jats:styled-content>niversity <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R</jats:styled-content>anking methodology, pointing to a drawback of using subjective, possibly biased, weightings to build a composite indicator (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">QS</jats:styled-content> scores). We propose an alternative approach to creating <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">QS</jats:styled-content> scores, which is referred to as the composite <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">I</jats:styled-content>‐distance indicator (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CIDI</jats:styled-content>) methodology. The main contribution is the proposal of a composite indicator weights correction based on the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CIDI</jats:styled-content> methodology. It leads to the improved stability and reduced uncertainty of the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">QS</jats:styled-content> ranking system. The <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CIDI</jats:styled-content> methodology is also applicable to other university rankings by proposing a specific statistical approach to creating a composite indicator.</jats:p>","journal":"Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology","year":2015,"id":841,"datarank":3.564768921881808,"base_score":4.553876891600541,"endowment":4.553876891600541,"self_citation_contribution":0.6830815337400812,"citation_network_contribution":2.881687388141727,"self_endowment_contribution":0.6830815337400812,"citer_contribution":2.881687388141727,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":94,"citer_count":72,"citers_with_citation_signal":62,"citers_with_endowment":62,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.0426,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2015-02-13","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":11093,"name":"Milica Bulajic","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":661,"name":"Lutz Bornmann","orcid":"0000-0003-0810-7091","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1420,"name":"Viljko Jeremic","orcid":null,"position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":11095,"name":"Milica Bulajić","orcid":"0000-0003-1356-4078","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1425,"name":"Veljko Jeremić","orcid":"0000-0002-0266-5247","position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":11092,"name":"Marina Dobrota","orcid":"0000-0001-9009-8790","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":72,"raw_metadata":{"citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-03-01T18:20:47.508186Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
