{"doi":"10.1002/9783527836642.ch2","title":"<scp>Cobalt‐Catalyzed</scp> Asymmetric Radical Reactions","abstract":"Cobalt, as one of the earth's abundant metals, has garnered significant attention in organic synthesis due to its versatile reactivity. Co-catalyzed radical transformations, especially their asymmetric variants, have emerged as powerful tools for accessing chiral molecules. Metalloradical catalysis leverages metal-centered radicals as one-electron catalysts to homolytically activate substrates, generating metal-entangled organic radicals that govern the reaction pathway and stereochemical outcome of catalytic radical process. C—H alkylation is a powerful tool for constructing C—C bonds, but activating inert C—H bonds with precise chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity remains challenging. The chapter explores co-catalyzed asymmetric hydrofunctionalization of alkenes with nucleophiles in the presence of extra oxidants involving metal-hydride-mediated hydrogen atom transfer.
