{"doi":"10.1002/9781119860914.ch32","title":"Keeping the Cortex Afloat","abstract":"Recent work has illuminated mechanisms by which cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) participates in cerebral cortical development. While providing a protective fluid cushion and sink for waste, the CSF also delivers important health and growth promoting factors for the developing brain. This chapter summarizes the current understanding regarding early CSF, its maturation, and roles during development of the cerebral cortex.
