{"doi":"10.1002/9781118784235.eelt0747.pub2","title":"Teaching/Developing Vocabulary Using Think‐Aloud and Read‐Aloud Strategies","abstract":"<jats:p>Thinking aloud and reading aloud are two instructional practices intended to provide models of proficient language use to listeners. Additionally, early readers are often introduced to many of the conventions of reading such as book handling, print conventions, and language and text structures during a read aloud or a think aloud. While engaging students and fostering learning and academic language development, both strategies are powerful motivational supports for students throughout the grades, especially English learners because they facilitate their hearing academic language produced by a capable reader and speaker.
