{"doi":"10.1002/9781118784235.eelt0305","title":"African American English in the United States Culture and Classrooms","abstract":"<jats:p>African American English (AAE) and African American Language (AAL) are linguistically and culturally encompassing terms used by educators and linguists to refer to varieties of English used by speakers who are African American or who live and come into linguistic contact with speech communities where African Americans live or historically have lived. As such, this article makes the case that African American English is inherently variable in nature from speaker to speaker and community to community.
