{"doi":"10.1002/047001153x.g205301","title":"The organelles of apicomplexan parasites","abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title>\n          <jats:p>The apicomplexa are a highly diverse phylum of parasitic protists that are descended from a secondary endosymbiosis of a photosynthetic algae and single eukaryotic cell. Throughout the evolution of the phylum, most species have maintained a single mitochondrion and a plastid‐like organelle called the apicoplast.
