The main contributor to this mean (SD) cost was initial screening mammography (mean [SD] per-person cost, $249 [$125]) followed by recall (mean [SD] perperson cost, $56 [$172]) and other diagnostic tests (mean [SD] per-person cost, $45 [$421]). The median cost of breast cancer screening was $250 (interquartile range, $174-367) per beneficiary screened (Table ).
